Though Epic Games has revealed a few additional details about Fortnite since the VGAs, those pale in comparison to hearing about the game straight from the dragon’s mouth, or in this case from Cliff Bleszinski’s mouth. After the awards extravaganza, Cliffy B wanted to give gamers a few more Fortnite details including how the game will incorporate two different styles of gameplay. Below you will find a post-VGA press conference in which Bleszinski answers one or two questions about Fortnite, but unfortunately it also contains some spoilers for Gears of War 3, so feel free to skip past it for the major Fortnite bullet points....

The issue began when Fortnite attempted to bypass the 30 percent cut that the Play Store takes from every sale on its service. The team at Epic Games enabled an option to do a direct payment and claimed that the saving was being returned to consumers. As a result, of this practice, Google removed the Fortnite application from its services as it breached its terms of the agreement. Epic Games is now responding with a legal case that appears to challenge the monopolies that exist in the app market....

The Epic Games Store also has spent a lot of money securing timed exclusives, and has already revealed the first free game Epic Games Store players can expect in September. The store typically gives away two games at a time, although it sometimes only offers one. The current offering was Automachef from publisher Team17, but the surprise addition of Saints Row: The Third brought the week up. The announcement was exciting, as there are many fans who love Saints Row: The Third, and it being offered for free is a great way for fans or new players to jump in and check it out....

The Epic Games Store selection for September 29 is also unified by a common element, as they both take aspects of the racing genre but flip it on its head. Racing video games have been around nearly as long as there have been games, but there’s not a car, truck, or common vehicle in either game. Runbow and The Drone Racing League Simulator are both racing games, but they’re not traditional racing games....

From April 30 to May 7, Epic Games Store users can claim Amnesia: The Dark Descent for free. Originally released in 2010, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is credited with revitalizing the horror genre at a time when most horror franchises were going with more action-oriented gameplay. Amnesia tasks players with exploring a creepy castle full of deadly creatures and gives them no way to defend themselves. Known for its great atmosphere and effective jump scares, Amnesia also boasts some classic survival-horror puzzle solving as well....

According to Piscatella, the PC digital distribution war set off by the Epic Games Store in 2019 resulted in lower overall consumer spending on digital PC games. Although game revenue overall increased by 2% in 2019, spending on PC digital content actually decreased.
