While we ponder what the final product may be like, we can’t help but imagine which audience Epic intends to appeal to with Fortnite. The developer’s past titles, like Gears of War 3, have focused more on the exploits of hardcore gamers, but according to the founder and chief executive of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, Fortnite will attempt to appeal to “an entirely different audience.” This news surfaced during an interview between Sweeney and VentureBeat, regarding Sweeney’s upcoming induction into the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame at this year’s D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas.

Sweeney also detailed just how the premise of Fortnite came to exist - as development on Gears 3 began to wind down.

He also took the time to assure concerned fans that, despite Fortnite’s cartoony appearance, it’s still a technological marvel underneath the hood. So, expect big explosions, hordes of enemies, insanely destructible environments, and a nearly endless supply of possible fortress layouts.

As it currently stands, Fortnite is still without, not only a release date and publisher, but a format as well. Hopefully Epic will rectify the situation soon, so stick around Game Rant for more information on the game as it becomes available.
