The 11th free Epic Games Store mystery game this holiday season, made available at 10 am CT on December 25 and lasting through the same time on December 26, is Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. At the start of this season’s promotion, many fans may have been worried about it this year as many of the starting games fell on the smaller spectrum of games, but it has ramped up over the past few days.

The Epic Games Store, in recent days, has seen the releases of three early Fallout games and Metro: Last Light Redux. All big games, but given Death Stranding’s standing as a former PlayStation exclusive (and remaining console exclusive), the pedigree of Kojima Productions, the extra content of the Director’s Cut, and the general hype around the recent announcement of Death Stranding 2, it stands to reason this is the biggest game so far this season.

Death Stranding is an action game, one that tried to forge a new subgenre called Strand about forming connections, and sees players travel a cataclysmic US as Sam Bridges, a porter. There are asynchronous multiplayer elements and the game is often described as a walking simulator given Bridges’ profession. The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding includes additional content such as new graphic options, new combat abilities, new items, a firing range, the Roadster, new structures, new missions, and much, much more.

Fans should also be aware, as noted above, that the Epic Games Store free game for December 26 has leaked online. This comes from Dealabs and Twitter user Billbil-kun, who has accurately leaked EGS and PS Plus games in the past. They’ve recently leaked the PS Plus free games for January 2023, with F.I.S.T. also being leaked as the EGS game for December 26.

F.I.S.T. is a solid addition, if not to the level of Death Stranding, but these Epic Games Store promotions usually end with a bang too, meaning fans should keep an eye out for the final day of the promotion. As always too, this should be treated with a grain of salt, but Billbil-kun’s track record is practically spotless.

Epic Games Store users get a handful of games every month.
