Epic Games Store Users Have Been Eating Well
On March 31, Epic Games Store users received Total War: Warhammer and City of Brass. The latter is a small, roguelike game about searching a city for treasure. It’s something that may have flown under many radars, and it’s a good giveaway. It may have been one of those hidden Epic Games Store gems for many people. Meanwhile, while Total War is a strategy game (which is arguably not the most popular genre), it has that franchise name weight behind it. Many know what Total War is, and combined with great reviews, the free price tag, and more, it was a big giveaway for Epic Games Store.
It didn’t stop there, as for this week (beginning April 7), Epic Games Store users received Rogue Legacy and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The latter may not perhaps be the biggest horror game out there, but it is often named as one of the best. Indeed, it has an entire following on its own—doing for horror what Total War did for strategy. Toss in Rogue Legacy, a small indie well-received roguelike game, and it’s a great week. Rogue Legacy 2 is also releasing at the end of April, so there’s not a better time to try out the first one.

With Rogue Legacy and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter available to be claimed now, fans know the two titles for April 14: Insurmountable and XCOM 2. The latter is perhaps the most popular title given away on Epic Games Store so far this year. What Total War is to strategy and Vanishing of Ethan Carter is to horror, XCOM 2 is double that for turn-based tactics. ALL tactics games are compared to XCOM 2, for good reason.
Yet, fans should not overlook the second title either. Insurmountable is up there with Rogue Legacy and City of Brass, as an indie game where players must take one of three characters through a journey in the mountains. It’s a lot of fun, and that’s what matters most at the end of the day for Epic Games Store and other services. This pattern, assuming it continues, is great—because it offers high-quality fun across both titles, no matter how big or small they may be.
