Houseparty is a “face-to-face” social network which allows gamers to play together while video chatting. It was purchased by Epic last year, which was looking to expand its social capabilities. Considering that the World Health Orginization is encouraging people to stay home and play video games because of the Coronavirus, a social network like Houseparty should be doing well right now.

However, there have been a number of rumors online that the Houseparty app can expose users personal data, including data collected by platforms like Netflix, and more worryingly, by banking apps. If these rumors are true, they would be a much bigger headache for Epic than the glitch in Fortnite that lets players win every game.
Epic is denying that there are any security problems with Houseparty. In a tweet yesterday, Houseparty said that the rumors were “spread by a paid commercial smear campaign” who wish to “harm Houseparty.” The tweet also included a $1 million dollar bounty for anyone who can “provide proof of such a campaign.”
While this may seem like a lot of money, Fortnite Mobile brings in over $1.8 million dollars per day, so Epic can clearly afford it. Anyone looking to collect the money can reach out to Houseparty by emailing bounty@houseparty.com.
