Early on in Overwatch 2, players were disappointed with the Australian tank hero, with many fans calling for Junker Queen buffs. In response, Blizzard stated that the character would see some meaningful revisions in the game’s recently released Season 2. True to its word, the developer came up with some solid tweaks for the queen, reworking her to the point where she’s become much more viable in the meta. Players are much happier now, and her reinvigorated fandom has resulted in an uptick of entertaining Junker Queen clips.

While playing in the deadly well stage of the Ilios map, Reddit user Spktra captured and shared a fantastic moment of the player pulling one over on the enemy team’s Winston. Overwatch 2 veterans know that the center of the well stage contains, as one might expect, an enormous well. It’s been the demise of many a hero in the game’s history, the huge pit simply being too tempting to avoid launching one’s opponents into it at every chance. Thinking quickly, Spktra does just that, and the variety of moves and abilities that Winston possesses can’t save the opposing hero.
Featured in the Play of the Game, the player’s Junker Queen is seen approaching the central well location to find Winston pressuring their team. Without hesitation, Spktra charges into Winston’s barrier and promptly fires off the character’s Jagged Blade, which is, situationally, one of the most valuable of all Junker Queen abilities. Aiming to escape, the Winston player leaps over the well using the character’s jetpack, a maneuver that likely works most of the time. Unfortunately for them, Jagged Blade stays in the target for a few moments and can be yanked back out, pulling the enemy towards the user. Spktra recalls the blade at just the right moment, preventing Winston from reaching safety and sending them plummeting towards their doom.
Even if they needed some tweaking first, Overwatch 2 has had some solid additions when it comes to effective tank heroes, with both Junker Queen and the more recent Ramattra making waves. The latter could even have some intriguing narrative implications, as Ramattra may influence fellow omnics like Zenyatta and Bastion. Being the style of game it is, Overwatch 2 has been light on the in-game narrative, so more story hooks like this are a welcome addition.
Though Junker Queen’s backstory and implications are less dramatic, the character still has much to offer. And with the new buffs she saw last month, fans are likely to see many more impressive clips like this in the future.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
