After decent performances in the Barclays Premier League, Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique will now be hoping for his national team coach Vicente Del Bosque to include him in Spain’s quest to retain European glory next year. Spain will start their journey in the Euro 2012 having been drawn into Group C alongside the mighty Italians, Republic of Ireland and Croatia.
With the likes of 22-year-old Jordi Alba and veteran Joan Capdevilla, Jordi Alba being the team’s current first-choice left-back, competing strongly for a place in the starting eleven, a confident Enrique is feeling ever so keen to join the competition.
Jose Enrique on Marca, the Spanish Sports Daily
I think that just for the fact that I’ve managed to play for a team like Liverpool, they should be thinking of me for the Spain squad.
Albeit having a total of nine appearances to his name in Spain’s youth team (two in Spain U-16, four in Spain U-20 and three in Spain U-21), Enrique is yet to feature in his country’s senior team despite being rumoured to have almost receive a last-minute call-up from Vicente Del Bosque for Spain’s friendly fixture against England.
Recently, on 23rd December, Enrique was picked in ESPN.com’s Barclays Premier League Best 11 for the first half of the season.
